Select Board Meeting Minutes 11/24/08
Monterey Select Board
Minutes of the meeting of 11/24/08

Meeting Opened at: 4:00pm
Select Board Members Present: Wayne Burkhart, Chairperson, Scott Jenssen and Jon Sylbert
Also in attendance for parts of the meeting:  Sue Protheroe for the Monterey News, Rodney Palmer (Boat Ramp Committee), John Campetti of Foresight Land Services and Gige O’Connell (Wilson McLaughlin Committee)

The board met with Police Chief, Gareth Backhaus to review the following items:
  • A couple of motor vehicle stops that ended with criminal complaints issued (one uninsured and one unlicensed operator).
  • Assisted with a domestic.
  • Suspicious activity on Seven Arts Road.
  • False alarm at the Town Hall.
  • MVA with a deer on RT 57
  • Tree on the phone lines on Sandisfield Rd
  • Abandoned 911 call on Beartown Mtn Rd.
  • Accident on Fairview Rd near the beaver dam, owner left the scene, car was towed and charges are being pressed.
  • The Board questioned a camper/truck that is frequently parked on the flats near Curtis Rd; the Chief stated that the person is an artist and is painting scenes in the back of the camper.
Miscellaneous Select Board Items Reviewed:
  • John Campetti of Foresight Land Services came in to review the final town beach survey with the Select Board.  The Board was very gracious to Mr. Campetti for a job well done.  John will go over the information with Town Counsel for him to give the Board a legal recommendation.
  • Gige O’Connell came in at the Board’s request to review the inventory list and locations of all of Edith Wilson’s artwork and property that was conveyed to the Town.  On the inventory list provided the ones marked with a red line are located at Lew Scheffey’s barn (and are not wrapped or properly protected); these belong to the Cultural Council, the ones marked with an * are located in the Town Hall (8), and there is one wood cut of the Town that can not be located, Gige thinks it may be at Will Marsh’s house and will follow up with him.  There are also several pieces that are on loan to the Bidwell House (china).  There are also 5 rugs that have been cleaned and are rolled up and are located in Lew Scheffey’s house (which he would appreciate the Town finding a new home for).  Everything in the inventory lise that is not circled has been sold.  The Board will now review the list further and look into other storage options for the items not currently on loan.  There has not been a monetary appraisal done.
  • The minutes from 11.3.07 and 11.17.08 were approved as amended.
  • Mail was reviewed.
  • The Board asked M. Noe to look into the Hampshire Power source and see if their rate offered would be less than what we are currently paying.
  • The Board asked M. Noe to purchase the annual holiday gift/thank you cards to Price Chopper for the Holidays for all full and part time employees; Don Torrico, The Police Department, The Highway Department, Barbara Gauthier and Melissa Noe.
A motion was made and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at: 6:00pm
